I start showing shoes around 2:30 just in case you got bored with the intro. also lol I just noticed, when I was talking about shoes looking like Vans I actually meant the ones on the next image
Hi, share with us your list of vintage reproduction shoe companies! :D You listed off a few rather quickly, and I would love to know which all your favorites are.
irregular choice shoes .com shoes in this style with the craziest patterns they literally throw a painting on the bottom of the shoes your welcome 🙏 💕💚🤍
Question for my somewhat ignorant self- did the design aspect cease due to the second World War? I mean it doesn't make sense but it might be a theory??
The thing about those pumps is they're actually designed to wear a for a full day. The curve distributes the weight across your foot. I still couldnt wear them though, I have a coordination disorder. But those low heels I'd kill for 😤👌
I have a pair of my great-grandmother's brown suede sandals from the 30s and they are FANTASTIC. They're no longer wearable, but I did wear them a couple of times when I was younger. They have the perfect wooden heel, gorgeous leatherwork in a swirly pattern and they're the best shoe I've ever seen.
Thank you for saying what you did about shoe silhouette. It set off a lightbulb in my head, and answered a question I've been trying to for myself for a very long time now: why/ what is it about modern clothes (1985-1995 and beyond) that makes it so much more difficult to figure out what a modern outfit is...vs say, 1780, or 1455? Silhouette I think is the answer. Not that I think it's a bad thing at all, that fashion is more free and people can wear things from whatever decade they want or even whatever century they want.... Just the lack of it explains why it's so hard to differentiate some things from 2010 to 2020, whereas the difference between 1950 and 1960, or 1450 and 1460 would be much more clear.
My great grandma left me a pair of her shoes 👠 I didn’t know what area they were from and I guess they are from 30s/40s. She knew I loved shoes, they are art 😻 they don’t fit me, but I love to look at them! They are stunning! Shoes are just not made the same!
Yes! this is exactly the perfect era for shoes! I think I have the opposite issue to you...I have tiny feet so I'm not looking to make my feet look smaller, but they're just that magic style that also looks beautiful on small feet as well. Contrast that to those awful witch-toe points from the early 2000s, which were supposed to elongate your legs (according to What Not To Wear at the time anyway lol) but just made you look awful.
Noted. I'm going to add this to my catalogue of inspirations for my art and world building. Beautiful footwear as options for Characters I paint and designs I make. I'll consider making a 1930's inspired painting of a woman ASAP. and defiantly include the footwear!
Honestly, half of the video is a footage of me when I need to buy some new shoes and I'm wandering through the shops trying on different pairs while crying and whining things like "this heel has the wrong angle" or "why is the buckle not the same color as the zipper on this one?". I'm just furious nobody cares about the details, and that I can't buy online because of my narrow feet xD
Love, love, love these shoes and wear this style. You are correct about the optical illusion of making them look smaller. My feet look like they belong to a kid when wearing them!
that is so true, cause ngl im only 5'5 with size 11.5 women/9.5 men US size and it looks so odd and ugly on me, so I look so odd in every shoe. kind wish it was 1930 D: LOL
I'm not sure if anyone has already mentioned them, but you might like some of the shoes from B.A.I.T., based in California. They are an all-vegan vintage reproduction shoe company. I have a few pairs that are really cute abd pretty dang comfortable.
Notice that the heels are placed under your actual HEEL, instead of at the back of the heel as they are today! These would be Infinitely more stable and comfortable! Check out American Duchess shoes from the past!
So it was the 1930's shoe design is the one I associate shoes the most with atleast the general shape of it. Maybe that's a factor on why I tend to not like modern shoes
This might be irrelevant, but please react to this Filipino film "Rosario". It was a great movie, and it was set in i think, 20s or 30s i want your opinion if they nailed it or not. Thank you very much.
1930s fashion was just on an entirely different level. It's my favorite decade of 20th century fashion and it always gets ignored! The shoes, the hats, the experimentation with bias cuts and unique seam lines, the embellishments *chefs kiss*. Pure "f*ck it let''s just do it" energy. Pure "high femme and you'll say thank you" energy. If you were one of the lucky who could afford to indulge in it, it was a hell of a time to get dressed. Honestly, even feed sack dresses were pretty dope.
Court heels. Also called a Louis heel. Extremely comfortable. The heels centers under the heel to support your weight. You can find these type shoes occasionally. Whims of fashion.
Word, 30s shoes are dope. I can watch you appreciate things forever. "The heels are chevkiz." I start to google Polish for "wonderful," halfway through typing I realize how stupid I am, D'oh.
I LOVE this video!!! I absolutely adore '30s clothes and shoes, and I've always been a shoe freak. Karolina likes exactly the same styles that I like. Thank you for featuring them, and talking about what a shame it is that you can't get pretty shoes any more!
I think you would like John Fluevog shoes. He's a local Vancouver shoe designer, but he's got shops worldwide. Seriously the most amazing modern version of these styles. And honestly, lots of other eras as well. Very inspired by the past. Anyways! I love shoes hahaha. I feel like you might appreciate Fluevogs.
Thinking about the music and dances of the 30's, these shoes are ment to be moved in. Professional dance shoes imitate the style because the wearer's weight is centered over the heel and the cut does make feet look fantastic! i.e. LaDuca's
Another thing for new vintage themed shoes, most are made with modern materials (aka plastic) and do not hold up nearly as well. Also Another thing is for people with really big feet, it's super hard to find shoes that fit, so shopping online is far from ideal, especially if you don't live in the us. I wear a mens 10, or a womens 12w, so most womens shoes are too narrow, so I'm very skeptical of orderning shoes online. I wish vintage reconstruction stores in person were a thing ;-;
I wish I loved anything as much as she loves 1930’s shoes. In unrelated news, I just realized that all my shoes are absolute trash. Just like the rest of 2020. 🗑
My grandma said these shoes were extremely comfortable. My great grandfather was a shoemaker (just like my grandfather) so she had many, many pairs of similar shoes, made especially for her.
Wow I'm relating with you right now at a spiritual level. I'm not even that much into fashion or vintage but it just feels right. My mom had vintage salon shoes which I always thought were the prettiest in the world. They didn't make my feet look exactly how I wanted, no shoe can - ever. But whitout digging into the thought a lot I always yearned for those 1930 shoes with perfect curves, nice fit and fancy heals. I'm dead because I found my place on earth.
THANKS! I'm sorry but everytime I lot at a painting, historical drawing or an old movie I want their shoes. They're so cute and fancy. That's just my type.
The placement of the heel isn't just to provide an illusion of the foot being smaller, but also to provide comfort when wearing them. The reason it is tilted and located more inward instead of the very back if the heel is because it more evenly distributed the weight when people walked. Very stylish shoes, 10/10.
I think Miucca Prada took some inspiration for her shoes for Spring 2008, like in terms of the gold and black combinations with frills and circular decorative straps
I know that you may not read this comment. Look for a English brand "hotter" go up to size 9uk. Super modern foot kind construction. I love email. I'm in my 70,s and need comfort. I enjoyed your chanel x
If you love these shoes (I do), type in art deco architecture on Pinterest. That also speaks to me on levels I didn't know existed. The 30's were an amazing era for design.
I'm from Brazil and my favorite retro inspired brand is called Lolita Pimenta and I think they do pretty well, but honestly Brazilian shoes are usually better made than USA at least
You need to check out Irregular Choice and their sister brand Poetic Licence. They often reference 30s styles. Also check out Fluevog, who often do the same. Also Ruby Shoo and Miss L Fire.
There's a French indie clothing brand that are doing shoes with those curved arches/heels going on, it's called Make My Lemonade if anyone wants to have a look. A good day to anyone reading this :)
What bothers me the most is that these shoes were not only pretty but also usable and comfortable. You could actually *walk* with them. Most shoes nowadays are designed in a way that may or may not be pretty, depending on the observer, but are definitely a pain to wear.
