Hi, from Astoria, Oregon! It is spring here too. I like to sew and also follow Bernadette Banner, Cathy Hay, and your redhead friend. My town is vintage! I think you're very nice and funny. Keep talking! I'm sewing some ribbon pins for the Women's Suffrage in the U.S. I'm saving for a dress maniquin so I can make a shift, then a corset, I live in a Victorian town, and it would be fun in the summer to wear a Victorian Costume. I'm doing my research now.

The Baltic Germans ladies with the huge collars looks like drawings of Johann Brotze, he was a German ethnographer who lived in 18th century Riga (now the capital of Latvia) and made a huge lot of drawings and paintings of local people and things he saw in everyday life. There are some more of his drawings on wikipedia and generally found around the internet.

i think they should have fashion more similar to early 20th century- 1920s. where women wore these dresses with veeeeeery low weist... like on their hip or lower. and 20ies style hats... i think that would be nice. there was this period (in germany) where some women still wore 1900s fashion with corsets and than where were some women that wore very simple dresses that didnt shape at all. so it was before 1920s androgynous look with flattening corset. i heard it was some kind of feminist thing and liberation and you could see the female form but it was not restrictive.

I did want to make a comment concerning the fashion plate that had the black and yellow dress, with the little girl in lavender and white, and the lady in all white. The gown of white was not necessarily a wedding gown. Our Grt. Grandma's sister, had a beautiful gown of white, which she had made in Chicago in 1893. She took the gown with her on her trip to Hawaii in 1894 and wore it when she went to see the Queen of Hawaii. She also wore it in London, where she had gone as a newspaper woman, for the Queens Jubilee. She was single and never married, was an author, poet, and newspaper woman, and a suffragette. I have her picture in the gown, and she looks very regal in it.

Loved the stream! But I was sadly tired from work and fell asleep for a short while. BUT my man who was sleeping in the sofa surprisingly woke tf up as soon as you started with the memes! I rewatched the whole thing today and I was wondering if you or anyone else is interested in Folk costumes? Like, its a huge part of fashion history (if you can call it fashion) here in Sweden and other European countries. Would be a cool topic maybe?
Emma Lundstedt
Emma Lundstedt 10 meses atrás
@MissCaraMint Yes indeed! Folk costumes and rural traditions are so much fun and carry so much history in them. And it's always fun to learn I think :)
MissCaraMint 10 meses atrás
Emma Lundstedt Oh Yes crown is a common part of our wedding outfit too, just not in my region I think. And the silver jewelry is always a must for everyone 😊
Emma Lundstedt
Emma Lundstedt 10 meses atrás
@MissCaraMint Thats really cool! Same as you, I can only speak for my region and here if you would marry in folk costume we wear a bridal crown, sometimes a veil is incorporated and the weddingdress is navy blue (if you dont marry in "regular" formal dress). My regional dress is also very plain and has little to no embroidery which is a little boring compared to others. But that can be compensated with a buttload of silver jewelry 👍🏻
MissCaraMint 10 meses atrás
Emma Lundstedt I don’t know too much about other bunads than my own. It’s simple compared to other sorts, not overy embroydered, but there is beauty in it’s simplisity. It comes in three main colours (red, green, and blue), and they’ve another less common one (black). As part of the costume. There are short cases and little caps you accessorize with and you have your pouch to keep things in hanging by your waist. It’s not so common anymore, but if you get married in your bunad there is a special head scarf that you wear as a bride. You then use the same scarf to swaddle your baby in when you get the babtized. Not common anymore, but a lovely little tradition I think. Edit. I don’t think we have the proposals thing, but I wouldn’t be supprised if someone ells does. There’s a lot of variasion in both customs and dialects because of the mountains.
Emma Lundstedt
Emma Lundstedt 10 meses atrás
@MissCaraMint Ah yes! I have seen some bunads and they are so beautiful and diverse! Its the same here with the swedish folkdräkt, they differ so much from region to region but we also have a "National costume" called the Sverigedräkt. It is blue and yellow, very very patriotic. I know a little about bunads and that there is something about scarves hanging from the waistband so show how many proposals you have? Please correct me if I'm wrong haha! I don't know if swedes have a similar thing going on but I do know that unmarried women would have their hair down or in hanging braids and married women wore it up. Usually in Sweden we wear our folkdräkt on our National day (6 june) and midsummer and christmas. If I had my own I would wear it as often as I could!

Just watched Amanda Halle's "That Dress" about Bette Davis off the shoulder dress from "all about Eve". That blue velvet dress could have been Edith Head's inspiration. So many similar elements.
