honestly this is a kind of cool conclusion, that maybe there should be more options for modern sportswear, that form-fitting clothing may not matter as much as people think it does, and that more sporty outfits are possible just we're cowards in the other direction now.

When I was a young lass, it was standard procedure to wear shorts under your skirt to facilitate modesty at recess, especially on Fridays, which were notoriously called: "Friday flip-up day" -- figure it out.

It's still a todays problem. The one with the blouses. They just don't stay inside my trousers, so I've got some blouse bodies.

I happen to have a picture of my grandmother, smoking a cigarette, in her trousers at a picnic just outside the incorporated city with the highest elevation in the US ((in the "old west" of Leadville, CO - in other words climbing was necessary, just to" get around town"), circa 1918. She was also the first postmistress in Colorado. I also have a pic of her somewhere climbing out the second story window of her house, onto the story-and- a- half high snowpack after the heaviest 24 hour snowfall in US history. Ironically, I never saw her in person in trousers until she broke her hip in the 1980s.

Some planet sent Karolina here, and I am eternally grateful they did. We shall look after her.

Climber here: Honestly you probably could rock the briches at the gym, no outer skirt, normal tank top. It would probably look close enough to some of the lighter wool climbing pants people wear Also shoes make a huge difference in climbing ability. It's all much easier in modern climbing shoes

Now I want to try go climbing in my 15th century outfit as soon as it‘s finished 😂

In regards to the blouse pulling out issue....at least as early as the 1850's, and into the 1910's, some blouses/bodices were bound at the lower edge, which only was just as long as where the waistband hit. It latched on to the skirt waistband using hooks and bars, to prevent it coming untucked.

...Okay but hat pins sound like something I need to get. I often find that when I'm in the field doing archaeology, I have two options: wear a too-tight hat that gives me a headache and causes a ton of sweat, or wear a looser hat that breathes better, but have to constantly cinch the chip-strap up to keep it from being blown off my head. I never even considered using hat pins (because historic fashion isn't something I tend to think about when dressing for a dig XD), but it sounds like they could be the solution to my hat woes, and in particular might help with my favorite hat (a slightly too big mesh top safari hat with a wide brim) and the fact that if I have it pulled down enough to stay in place, the crown gets deformed.

I didn't used to wear a corset... ever. But since watching Karolina videos, I have, and I find that the corset helps my back, and ironically breathing a lot.

Page 38 in Authentic Victorian Dressmaking Techniques has info on keeping the shirtwaist in place. Essentially a few buttonholed ranges are sewn into the shirt waistband and then you sew hooks into the skirt so that the two can be joined together. Fun fact!!

Hey there from a former bolder, try boldering shoes there specially made for boldering, there supposed to fit really tight. In our bolder halls you must lend yourself some shoes, street shoes are not allowed on the walls (because of hygiene, like if someone stepped into dog shit not so nice). 😉 Love your videos. ❤️

I am not familiar with women's fashion but I wear men's shirt garters to keep the shirt tucked in so perhaps that should be something you should look into finding for women?

Some historical skirts and shirts have ties, or hooks and eyes to hold them together. It was mentioned in (I think) costume in detail, because many of the skirts were heavy and required help to stay up.

I once read Edwardian ladies sewed an extra hook-and-eye closure into their waistbands and shirtwaist to keep things neat. I forgot the source and don't know if it's true, and I have no idea where to begin researching.

It was hard for you because those clothes aren't meant to be climbed in. Back then, women usually didn't do stuff like that. Some women today even still choose to be girly girls, like me. It was so funny seeing you climb in the old days clothing though! ^u^ LOL xD

Thank you for your mythbusting, your knowledge, your research, the hard work you do to design and sew these clothes and test them... And explain how it would have been like then (even compared to what you have made). It really brings these older time periods alive, IMO. It also really goes to show sexism was super bad back in the day, because everyone would say "oh women can't do things" and "look at the clothes, it wouldn't work in that outfit." Turns out that was just prejudice, dogma and lies. *HISTORY EXPOSED.*
